Inspector Prem Narine Elected Chair of Police Association

INCOMING: Chairman of the Police Association, Inspector Narine

Detective Inspector Prem Narine who previously served in the Major Crimes Investigation Unit was this morning elected chairman of the Police Association following an election.

Narine who presently serves as the Divisional Detective for the Police Regional Division 4-B is supported as Chairman of the Police Association by Inspector Kooldeep as his Vice-Chair, Woman Sergeant Lynch-Davis as Secretary Woman Sergeant Jameer as treasurer and woman Sergeant Benjamin as Public Relations Officer of the Association.

The Functions of the Police Association is to make representation on behalf of police officers from the rank of Chief inspector down to Constables.

The life of the previous commission expired in March 2020. It was headed by woman Sergeant Forde who was supported by a number of other office bearers and support ranks who made up the committee.

As part of its privileges, the Police Association makes recommendations to the Parliament through the Guyana Police Force, for two nominees to sit on the Police Service Commission. The life of the current Police Service Commission comes to an end in August of this year.

Added to that, the association also makes representations to the Minister of Home Affairs, again through the Guyana Police Force on the issue of salary increases, benefits and also looks into other associated issues of Police ranks who fall within the bracket of Chief of Inspector and Constables.
