$80 Million announced for Pigeon Island development

The Government of Guyana will be releasing $80 million Guyana Dollars to facilitate infrastructure and other works at Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara.

The announcement was made by President Irfaan Ali who is leading a team to the community as his administration celebrates its 2nd Year Anniversary in office. Ali was sworn in as President on August 02, 2020.

Security concerns, the need for more entrances and exits from the community, the need for regularisation of squatters, and the construction of better roads, drains and bridges are among some of the concerns being addressed by the government officials in the community.

President Ali told the community that for the projects to become a reality, residents must also cooperate.

It was announced that works will be done to enhance a community playfield which was subjected to a land dispute, new roads will be built and existing roads will be recapped.

The Head of State said a system would be arrived at where the skilled persons in the area will be allowed to work with the contractors responsible for the impending projects.

President Irfaan Ali is accompanied to the community by Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha, Minster of Local Government Nigel Dharamlall, Minister of Public Works Deodat Indar and Minister within the Housing Ministry Susan Rodrigues.

The Ministers each made remarks in relation to their respective sectors and outlined what plans each ministry and its agencies have for the community.
