October 1, 2025 – A 60-year-old gold miner has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Roger Simon, of Fifth Avenue, Bartica, was charged earlier this year and appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court. Simon had initially pleaded not guilty, prompting a trial.

At the conclusion of the proceedings on Wednesday, the court found Simon guilty of the offence and handed down a two-year custodial sentence.
