55-Y-O gold miner murdered at 14 Miles Issano

Police in Regional Division #7 have launched an investigation into the alleged murder of 55-year-old gold miner John José Marciano of One Mile, Wismar, Linden.
The incident reportedly occurred around 03:45 hrs on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at a mining camp located at 14 Miles Issano, Middle Mazaruni River.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Marciano was at his mining camp during the early morning hours when an incident took place.
He was later found slouched on the ground within the camp, suffering from multiple chop wounds to his body.
A suspected murder weapon — a cutlass — was recovered near the scene.
The victim’s body is expected to be transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital for an official pronouncement of death and will subsequently undergo a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have taken a 35-year-old female cook from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, into custody as investigations continue.
In a related development, a 19-year-old gold miner from Tapakuma, Essequibo Coast, was arrested in Anna Regina, Region #2, at approximately 07:45 hrs on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after police acted on information received. He remains in custody pending further inquiries.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
