President Ali Meets Families of Linden Shooting Victims

–Promises Independent Probe
April 8, 2025 — President Dr. Irfaan Ali travelled to Linden this evening, where he met with the grieving families of Ronaldo Peters and Keon Fogenay — two men who were fatally shot in separate incidents involving the police in the past 24 hours.
Peters, 21, was shot and killed by police on Monday night, triggering widespread unrest in the mining town. During a protest earlier today in response to that incident, 32-year-old Keon Fogenay, also known as “Dan,” was fatally shot during a confrontation between protestors and law enforcement.
In a solemn meeting with the families, President Ali expressed condolences and assured them that a thorough and independent investigation will be launched in partnership with the Regional Security System (RSS). He emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and justice in the handling of the incidents.
The meeting was described as cordial yet candid, with family members voicing their concerns and calling for accountability. Following the engagement, the families issued a public call for peace and calm in Linden, urging residents to exercise restraint as the investigation unfolds.
The President’s visit comes amid heightened tensions and calls from the public for swift action and transparency in both cases. The government has since reiterated its support for an impartial inquiry into the use of force by the police.
