21-Y-O dies in Puruni Trail crash

A 21-year-old man from Mongrippa Hill, Bartica, lost his life on Monday evening after the vehicle in which he was travelling crashed along the Puruni Trail in Region Seven.

Dead is Anthony Allen, who was driving motor car PAR 6448 when the accident occurred at around 6:20 p.m. on the 35-kilometre stretch of the Puruni Trail in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni area.

Allen was reportedly travelling east along the trail when the vehicle was negotiating a right-hand bend and lost control.

According to a police report, the car reportedly toppled several times before coming to rest in a ditch on the northern side of the trail.

Allen and an 18-year-old gold miner from Potaro Road, Bartica, who was travelling in the vehicle, were removed from the wreckage by members of the public and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital.

Allen was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 18-year-old sustained injuries and was admitted to the hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.

Allen’s body remains at the Bartica Regional Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
