Youth Remanded After Alleged Armed Robbery Spree

February 1 2025- A 21-year-old labourer, Isaiah Griffith, of Bent Street, Georgetown, has been remanded to prison
after being denied bail on five counts of armed robbery.
Griffith appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’
Courts on Wednesday, where he faced allegations of violently robbing multiple victims at gunpoint
and knifepoint.
Prosecutors allege that Griffith, sometimes acting with an accomplice, carried out a string of
robberies.
They allege that on December 17, 2024, while armed with a gun robbed Alfred Chinos of an iPhone
worth $220,000.
The same day, at Robb Street, Georgetown, he is accused of robbing Angel McKenzie of $340,000 in
cash. It is further alleged that on January 26, 2025, at Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, he brandished a
knife and robbed Zhao Fengzhi of a Samsung Galaxy phone.
That same day, at George Street, Werk-en-Rust, he reportedly stole a Redmi cellphone valued at
$62,000 from Jiang Ji Liang.
In the last charge, he is accused of robbing Jin Bo Hu of $334,800, also while wielding a knife.
Attorney-at-law Stacy Goodings requested reasonable bail, arguing that Griffith had a fixed place of
residence.
However, the prosecution strongly opposed bail, citing: the gravity of the offences, the risk of
witness tampering, the use of a dangerous weapon and CCTV footage allegedly placing Griffith at a
business owned by one of the victims.
During the hearing, Griffith alleged that he had been punched in the mouth and stomach by police
officers during his arrest after denying involvement in the crimes.
His lawyer raised concerns of police brutality, prompting the prosecution to request a medical
examination to verify the claims.
After considering both sides, Magistrate Mc Gusty ruled against bail, emphasizing the severity of the
charges and the potential risk of witness tampering.
Griffith will remain on remand until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for February 19,
2025.
