Consultations have started on the 2022 national budget. Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh confirmed that consultations have started with government agencies, in a brief interview last week.

“We have started the technical work already, that work is ongoing in earnest,” he said, “We started consultations with several sector ministries, meetings to discuss budget proposals, their draft estimates,” he told this publication.

Dr Singh said that “these meetings are going on every day” as he explained that he has had “engagements” with three chambers of commerce in Region Six and plans to meet with other stakeholders.

“The work is proceeding and is intensifying on preparing budget 2022,” he said too, “as you know we have said, we are aiming for an early budget,” Dr Singh said while stopping short of giving an actual date.

Pressed for a date for the presentation of the budget, the Minister said that his team is working to get the budget to Parliament in “goodtime”.
