Four sisters including two juveniles who are all Venezuelan nationals were on Tuesday remanded to prison for attempting to murder a 16-year-old girl whom they attacked and stabbed with a knife.

Charged are 22-year-old Evelyn Alfonso; Roxanna Alfonso, 20; and their two underage sisters. The siblings were arraigned before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

It is alleged that on January 28, 2022, at Cummings Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of each other, with intent to commit murder, they wounded a 16-year-old girl.

They were not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to them. Evelyn and Alfonso were remanded to prison while the two minors will be kept in custody at the juvenile holding centre until their next court appearance on February 11.

The court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, at around 9:00 hours, the 16-year-old girl was in the company of her aunt when she was confronted by the four sisters with whom she has an old grievance.

The sisters then armed themselves with knives and began pelting missiles in the direction of the girl and her aunt.

A scuffle then ensued between the sisters and the teenager during which the latter was stabbed to her neck. The girl was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted as a patient.

Following the incident, a report was made to the Police which led to the arrest of the siblings.
