In Linden, Region 10, a historic moment unfolded on Friday with the signing of a US$35 million contract for the new Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge, heralding a significant chapter for the area.

President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali presided over the signing, signaling a transformative era for Linden and Guyana.

This pivotal project holds the promise of fostering national and regional development and enhancing trade in Guyana.

Financed directly by the Government of Guyana, the project will be carried out by China Railway Construction (Caribbean) Co. Ltd.

President Ali, accompanied by Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, Minister within the Ministry Deodat Indar, and Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues, emphasised the government’s ongoing commitment to regional progress.

Highlighting the various improvements implemented in the region, President Ali assured residents of continued development initiatives.

The upcoming four-lane bridge, spanning 220 meters, will be precast and equipped with road safety signs, lighting, a 32-meter horizontal clearance, and an 11.5-meter vertical clearance. The construction site is located near West Watooka, Wismar.

Dong Chong Lee, the General Manager of China Construction Railway Construction Limited, expressed the company’s dedication to adhering to safety standards and local regulations, ensuring the successful realisation of the project.
