Two security guards attached to Kaieteur News who are accused of murdering a vagrant, were today charged and remanded to prison.

Those charged are 39-year-old Tony Waldron and 49-year-old Yan Licorish.
The men appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

They were not allowed to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on March 16, 2021, at Saffon Street, La Penitence, Georgetown, they murdered 58-year-old Mohabir Singh.

The men who were represented by attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahaman was remanded to prison until April 19,2021.

According to reports, Mohabir body was found with marks of violence lying in the tray of a canter truck which is operated by Kaieteur News. The canter was parked in the Kaieteur News bond. His body was discovered by a driver who had parked the canter in the bond the previous night and secured the gate leading to bond.

Upon examining his body, the police found what appeared to be a wound to the back of the man’s head and a small cut to his wrist. There were also bloodstains inside the tray of the canter where the man’s body was found.

The police ranks were able to extract the video footage from the newspaper’s CCTV cameras as well as from a government CCTV set up which is located a stone’s throw away from the Kaieteur News bond.

Following  investigation, they arrested the two security guards who were on duty on said night. A post mortem with dissection was performed on the body in the presence of police by Dr. Nehaul Singh who gave the cause of death as brain hemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head.
