Police in Regional Division #6 are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the lives of two motorcyclists on Sunday evening, June 15, 2025, along the Fort Canje Public Road in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Junior Malcolm Matthews of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, and 29-year-old Stephen Tiloo of Reliance Settlement, East Canje.

According to initial investigations, the accident occurred around 20:55 hrs.

Tiloo was riding motorcycle CP 768 north along the Fort Canje road, allegedly at a high speed, while Matthews was heading in the opposite direction on motorcycle JSP 1, also reportedly at a fast rate. The two riders collided head-on while attempting to pass each other.

Both men were flung onto the roadway and sustained serious injuries. Notably, neither was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the crash.

Public-spirited citizens rushed the injured men to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were both pronounced dead on arrival by a medical practitioner.

Their bodies are currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations as investigations continue.
