Following an accident on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, involving motor lorry GAE 38, owned by Ashoka Buildcon Limited, and GPF’s motor pickup PAC 5254, the Guyana Police Force has issued a statement to clarify the status of the matter.

According to reports, the driver of GAE 38, identified as Romel Benjamin, aged 29, hailing from Lovely Lass Village, West Coast Berbice, was brought before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on January 10, 2024.

During the court proceedings, Benjamin was charged with ‘Dangerous Driving’ and entered a plea of ‘not guilty.’ Subsequently, he was remanded to prison.

Following this initial court appearance, the case was adjourned to February 08, 2024. Benjamin attended this hearing remotely via Zoom and was granted bail in the sum of $50,000.

The subsequent hearing was scheduled for March 12, 2024. However, it was further adjourned to April 08, 2024, during which evidence was presented.

The matter is expected to resume on May 10, 2024, at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court as the investigation continues.
