Teen Gets 3-year Jail Sentence for Armed Robbery

A teenager was on Thursday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for robbery under arms after pleading guilty to the offence.
The defendant, 19 years old Andre Smith appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The charge alleged that Smith on Sunday 20th of June 2025 at Kitty Seawalls, Georgetown while being armed with an offensive weapon, to wit a knife, robbed Kins James of a Samsung Galaxy A15 cellphone valued $50,000, a black wallet valued $5,000 which contained $50,000 cash totaling $105,000 property of Kins James.
Magistrate McGusty was shown a video which showed the accused committing the act and questioned his reasons for doing so.
Magistrate McGusty inquired whether this was the first time he had done it and lectured Smith about the importance of respecting other people and their property.
Smith stated that he had never done it before and this was the first time he has been charged with any offence.
Magistrate McGusty after learning that Smith was only 19 years old questioned whether this was the road he wanted to go down seeing as he is young.
The prosecution stated that none of the stolen items were recovered.
Magistrate McGusty sentenced Smith to three years behind bars.
