Taxi driver pleads not guilty to unlawful wounding, granted $50,000 bail

January 24 2026
A 38-year-old East Ruimveldt taxi driver was on Wednesday charged with unlawful wounding when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Jeremy Rodrigues was arraigned before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty in connection with an alleged incident on December 29, 2025, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In applying for bail, defence counsel submitted that Rodrigues was not a flight risk and explained that the matter arose out of a confrontation between the accused and the virtual complainant.
The attorney further told the court that Headley was not hospitalised and was not facing any medical complications.
The prosecution offered no objection to bail but requested that both men be placed on a bond to maintain the peace.
Acting Chief Magistrate McGusty granted Rodrigues bail in the sum of $50,000 and ordered that both parties be bound over to keep the peace.
The matter was adjourned to February 11.
