In the feature match-up of the day, Santa Rosa’s under-18 soccer team emerged triumphant in the Digicel Under-18 Round of 16 clashes, overpowering a spirited Richard Ishmael side with a commanding 2-0 victory.

The match, held at the Ministry of Education Ground last evening, witnessed a standout performance by Santa Rosa’s Nelon Lucas, who scored twice to lead his team to a well-deserved victory.

From the opening whistle, both teams showcased their intent to seize control of the game, with fast-paced and skillful exchanges that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

Santa Rosa quickly asserted their dominance, with their midfield and forward line effectively linking up to create numerous scoring opportunities.

The Richard Ishmael defense put up a valiant effort to thwart the relentless Santa Rosa attacks, but the breakthrough eventually came through the determination of Nelon Lucas.

Lucas, a rising star in the under-18 football circuit, displayed his attacking prowess as he opened the scoring midway through the first half. His first goal was a fierce shot from outside the eighteen-yard box.

This early advantage infused Santa Rosa with confidence, further fueling their dominant display.

Richard Ishmael, despite being down a goal, refused to back down and mounted several counter-attacks to try and level the score.

Their determination and resilience were evident throughout the match, as they created some tense moments for the Santa Rosa defense.

However, the solid defensive line of Santa Rosa, led by their captain Roy Vansluytman, exhibited impressive composure and organization to thwart every offensive attempt.

As the second half commenced, Santa Rosa intensified their pressure, seeking to extend their lead. The persistent efforts of the Santa Rosa forwards finally paid off, once again through the heroics of Nelon Lucas.

Lucas showcased his predatory instincts inside the box, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Richard Ishmael to double his team’s lead with a well-taken goal.

The final whistle blew, and Santa Rosa celebrated their well-earned victory, booking a spot in the Digicel Under-18 Round of 16.

The team’s performance was a testament to their hard work, cohesive gameplay, and the individual brilliance of Nelon Lucas.

The Santa Rosa coach, speaking after the match, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance, praising their dominance and their ability to capitalize on crucial moments.

He lauded Lucas’s contributions, acknowledging the young talent’s potential to become a key figure in the future of Santa Rosa’s football program.

The focus now shifts to the upcoming Round of 16 clash, where Santa Rosa will face another formidable opponent.

With their confidence soaring high and the spirit of teamwork driving them forward, Santa Rosa’s under-18 team stands poised to make a lasting impact on the prestigious Digicel tournament.
