In connection with the passing of his younger brother, 43-year-old Wensley Williams, also known as “Pooh Bear,” was found guilty on Wednesday of the capital crime of murder.

However, the jury concluded that he was insane when he committed the crime.

DEAD: Cleveland Hodge

At the Demerara High Court, Williams, formerly of Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was on trial for the 2020 murder of 39-year-old Cleveland Hodge before Judge Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and a mixed 12-member jury.

The Judge has postponed the case until February 29, 2024, when the sentence will be decided. This prisoner is being held on remand until his sentencing hearing.

State Counsel Caressa Henry, Joy Williams, and Padma Dubraj prosecuted the case, and Attorneys-at-Law Dexter Todd and Candaice Adams represented Williams.

Hodge was killed between May 21, 2020, and May 22, 2020.

A day after being stabbed by his brother, Hodge, popularly known as “Bruk Up,” a gold miner from Grove Squatting Area, EBD, passed away at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

On May 21, 2020, at approximately 15:10 hours, he was stabbed in the body at Old Road, Craig, EBD.

The police said that Hodge saw that Williams was carrying a knife and went up to take it away out of concern that he would harm himself. However, Williams is reported to have cut Hodge’s hands as he (Hodge) approached in an attempt to take away the weapon.

Williams then stabbed Hodge in the right arm and left shoulder. Hodge was transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre after concerned citizens went to his rescue. There, he received treatment and was released the same evening.

However, Hodge was readmitted to the hospital after complaining of feeling unwell a few hours later. He was then admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died the next day.
