One Granted Bail, Another Jailed in Larceny Cases

Two men appeared before the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court in separate simple larceny matters, resulting in bail being granted in one case and a prison sentence imposed in another.
Osafo Blackette, also known as “Shine Shoes,” a 24-year-old farmer of Victoria, East Coast Demerara, was charged with two counts of simple larceny.
Blackette was arrested on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and is accused of committing the offences between January 5 and January 6, 2026, at Belfield, East Coast Demerara. The alleged victims are Rakesh Sanicharra, a 32-year-old businessman of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, and Narine Gobin, a 46-year-old businessman of Naamryck, East Bank Essequibo.
Blackette appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court at about on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, before Magistrate Sunil Scarce, where the charges were read to him.
He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 on each count. The matter was adjourned to March 11, 2026.
In a separate case, Rawle Munroe, a 40-year-old excavator operator of Two Friends Village, Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, was charged with simple larceny following his arrest on Monday, January 6, 2026. The offence was allegedly committed on the same day at Enmore, East Coast Demerara, against Ramdeo Persaud.
Munroe appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 7, 2026, at about 12:55 hrs. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment.
