‘NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT’ Guyana’s Pres. tells investors

Guyana’s Head of State President Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Tuesday night told investors that they have nothing to worry about and nothing to fear.
His comments came in direct response to announcements made by Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro that his country will be granting exploration licenses to company seeking to engage in exploration activities in Guyana’s Essequibo region.
“Our Message is very clear, your investment is in a safe, democratic, stable country in which the rule of law prevails. You have nothing to worry about when you invest in a country that governs itself in accordance with the rule of law, that stands on the side of democracy and that understands what true freedom is, so there is nothing to fear” His Excellency Mohamed Irfaan Ali said in his address to the nation Tuesday night.
On Sunday Venezuela announced that a referendum held to affirm Guyana’s Essequibo Region as a territory of Venezuela was successful. The Government of Guyana is however of the view that the voting process was flawed and less than half of the eligible voting population in Venezuela voted in favor of the move to claim Guyana’s Essequibo.
Guyana has over the last few weeks ramped up its call for peace in the South American Region while Venezuela has been making statements and promising actions which threatens the peace and stability of South America.
A border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela which was settled back in 1899 has been used over the years by successive Venezuelan Governments as an election tool to rally up support ahead of national elections. Venezuelans are said to have national elections in 2024.
