Mohamed assists with 7-year-old boy’s cancer treatment; calls on others to help

Guyanese businessman, Azruddin Mohamed has pledged his assistance to Munesh Narayan’s treatment, a seven-year-old cancer patient.

Narayan of Somerset, Essequibo Coast was recently diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, an aggressive type of cancer that is difficult to treat. As Guyana does not offer treatment, efforts are being undertaken to raise money so the young lad can receive treatment in the United States.

A day after Big Smith News Watch reported that the cost of his treatment overseas would be between US$100,000 – $300,000, Mr Mohamed has offered his support and is encouraging the corporate community to help the child.

In a post on his Facebook page, Mr Mohamed said: “It’s disappointing that those who can afford to contribute to such causes are often not doing enough. If 15-20 of us each make a contribution of about US$ 4,000, little Munesh will be able to get the help he needs.”

“Let’s join hands to support more children and people in need. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most,” he added.

SHEA, a non-governmental organisation, is helping the family raise money. Donations can be made to Demerara Bank under the name Lori Narine and account number: 6002041325.

Mr. Mohamed earlier on Tuesday met with the child’s mother and a representative from the SHEA organisation.

Narayan’s aunt, Ameera Singh told Big Smith on Monday that began complaining of pain in his left leg in January and was diagnosed with Ewingh Sarcoma weeks later.

Narayan, who is typically a cheerful, happy, and active child, is unable to walk because of excruciating pain.

Local doctors had recommended amputation of the leg but fortunately, foreign doctors on a medical mission to Guyana at the time looked at his case and said treatment can be done overseas.
