The man who is accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old boy for sitting on his bench was on Thursday charged with the capital offence of murder and remanded to prison.

Forty-five-year-old Lenny Fraser, of Hogg Street, Albouystown, Georgetown and Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, Georgetown appeared before Chief  Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on April 4, at the aforementioned location, he murdered 16-year-old Isaiah Smith of Lot 100 Middle Road La Penitence. The murder accused was remanded to prison until April 28.

Two teenage eyewitnesses told investigators that they, along with Smith, were sitting on a bench east of Fraser’s house when he ordered them to remove. But when Smith refused to move, Fraser slapped him and they ended up in an altercation.

Fraser then pulled out a knife from the waist of his pants and dealt the boy a stab to his abdomen. The injured teen ran for a short distance on Independence Boulevard before he collapsed.

He was picked up by a taxi driver and rural constable and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The matter was then reported and Fraser was arrested and charged.
