Guyana to open Gold Cup Prelims against Grenada.

Following the official draw of the 2023 Gold Cup which took place on April 14th, Guyana has been pitted against Grenada as part of their path to this year’s competition. Guyana will play Grenada on Saturday June 17th, 2023, at 9:00 PM at the DRV PNK Stadium in what should be a closely contested match up.
Guyana, ranked 18th in CONCACAF, hoping to keep national fans optimistic about its World Cup aspiration, will be looking for nothing but victory when the Gold Cup Prelims commences.
To boost our chances of qualification for the Gold Cup, Guyana will embark on two training camps – one will be held in Jamaica (3 weeks according to the National Head Coach), and the other camp will be held in the United States. Mr. Shabbazz has indicated that a balanced blend of senior and junior players will be important for the team progression, stressing the need for the experienced to impart their knowledge of the game to the junior players.
Mr. Shabbazz also acknowledged the progression of his opponent, Grenada, who recently played the US Men’s National Team to a 7-1 defeat.
Assuming Guyana wins the game against Grenada, they will advance to round 2 of the Prelims, and will take on the winner of round 1 matchup between Trinidad and Tobago and Guadeloupe on June 20th at 4:30PM.
