The Guyana Police Force Academy welcomed 104 new officers to the force at its graduation ceremony today at the Officer’s Training Centre at Eve Leary Georgetown.

In his remarks, Deputy Commissioner Calvin Brutus noted the rigorous training, challenges and studies the ranks have endured for the past months have seen the men succeeding as full-fledged members of the GPF.

He reminded them that many had started the course and could not have made it to completion, as the GPF have particular standards and only the best would have come out successful in this course.

Deputy Commissioner Brutus urged the new ranks to maintain integrity, as it is the hallmark of members of the GPF, and integrity is crucial when performing duties, and to do so with confidence when serving the public.

He advised the new ranks to work in unification with members of the public when addressing the issues presented to them, noting the need for persons to have confidence in the force’s ability; as they should be able to seek sound advice and guidance from well grounded officers of the law.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the need for proper and thorough investigations completed in a reasonable time, alluding the importance of successful in prosecuting when matters are taken to court.

He cited that the graduating ranks have been taught critical life skills, as every aspect of their training has a purpose.

Deputy Commissioner Brutus told the ranks that conduct is key, and reminded them the need to be presentably attired while performing duties.

He stated that graduating today is not the end, but rather the beginning of the ranks’ first journey in policing, while urging them to read and absorb information, as law enforcement involves a lot of intricacies and principles, and it is the GPF’s policy to ensure that every member is proficient in their duties.

Prizes were awarded to the best graduating ranks of each course. Constable 26026 Isaacs copped the prize for Overall Best Graduating Student.
