The entrance to the GiftlandMall ‘Entertainment Strip’

The Guyana Fire Service this afternoon responded to a fire at the GiftlandMall ‘Entertainment Strip’ located at Lot 1 Plantation Pattensen, Turkeyen, Georgetown.

Co-Founder of the GiftlandMall Mrs. Monica Beepat in phone communication with this publication confirmed the development and subsequently indicated that the fire was brought under control.

A representative of a private sector entity who was in the vicinity at the time told BIG Smith News Watch that the call to the fire department was made by her through the 912 emergency number after she observed that rather making a call to the fire service, persons just stood with their phones taking photos and videos.

The fire service responded promptly with three tenders and brought the situation under control. BIG Smith News Watch was told that the fire started in the District Night Club which is one of the many entertainment joints along the GiftlandMall Entertainment Strip.

The ‘Entertainment Strip’ at GiftlandMall is home to thousands of persons seeking entertainment throughout the weekend but the facility enjoys a larger gathering on weekends and special holidays.

Recently, regular patrons of ‘The Strip’ began taking to social media to complain about the crowd at the facility which has been causing them to look for alternative entertainment locations. This forced the administration of the GiftlandMall to implement a GYD$2000 fee for anyone seeking to enter the entertainment strip on weekends

The GiftlandMall and Entertainment Strip was commissioned in 2015.
