Businessman Brutally Killed in Coomacka Brawl

September 1 2025
What began as a night of leisure quickly descended into bloodshed on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when 49-year-old businessman Courtney Evans was savagely attacked and killed during a violent confrontation at Coomacka Mines Beach, Linden.
Police confirmed that Evans, who resided in New York but was visiting his hometown, suffered horrific injuries in the clash.
He was stabbed in the lower back, struck in the head, and slashed at the elbow. Bleeding heavily and struggling for life, he was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex but succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment.
The deadly brawl erupted after Evans, his brother Tyrone Evans, and their friend arrived at the beach for drinks.
There, they encountered a group of four men and a woman who were also consuming alcohol. Tempers flared when the female allegedly hurled a derogatory insult at Tyrone, sparking a heated quarrel that spiraled into a brutal fight.
Witnesses say the groups clashed violently before the female and her companions fled the scene in a white minibus, leaving carnage behind.
In addition to Courtney’s death, three others were bloodied in the chaos:
Tyrone Evans, 47, who was left with a deep gash to the forehead.
Joel Harding, 28, who sustained stab wounds to his left arm and right elbow.
Evan Herman, 28, who suffered two gruesome wounds to his head and was rushed into surgery. His condition is listed as stable.
Courtney’s body now lies at G. Jestco Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have since captured a 22-year-old female teacher, believed to have triggered the deadly chain of events, along with one male suspect.
They remain in custody assisting investigators. A manhunt has been launched for the other suspects who fled the scene.
