Tiwari is accused of deceiving Theodore Craig out of $6.4 million by falsely claiming ownership of a plot of land. The alleged incident took place between May 8 and May 13, 2024, during which Tiwari reportedly convinced Craig to purchase the land, presenting himself as the legitimate owner.
During the court session, Tiwari denied the charge.
However, the police prosecution raised concerns about Tiwari’s past, pointing out that he had faced similar charges before. The prosecutor argued that Tiwari’s release on bail could lead to further criminal activity.
Craig, who had worked with Tiwari in the past, testified that he had been making weekly payments of US$1,000 for the land before discovering the fraudulent scheme.
He provided evidence of their financial transactions, including documentation and receipts.
Tiwari’s defense attorney countered the claims, asserting that Tiwari had no active legal cases or prior convictions to support the prosecution’s concerns. The attorney argued that the charges stemmed from a personal dispute between the two men.
After hearing submissions from both sides, Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty granted Tiwari bail at $300,000 with the condition that he have no contact with Craig. The case was adjourned until October 16, 2024.
