– Dequawn Vancooten’s mission to bring back the classics in upcoming fun day activity.

Dequawn Vancooten, an ardent advocate for cultural preservation, is on a mission to reconnect the younger generation with the past by reintroducing old norms and games that were once popular before the rise of social media.

In an era dominated by digital technology and virtual interactions, Vancooten aims to revive the spirit of outdoor play and community bonding that characterized the lives of young men and women years ago.

‘Sal Out’, ‘Dog and the Bone’, and various other traditional games were a common sight in the streets, where young people would gather and engage in physical play.

Vancooten recognizes the importance of these games as they fostered friendships, promoted physical activity, and taught valuable life skills. By reintroducing these classic games, he hopes to reignite the joy and camaraderie associated with outdoor play and create a space for young people to disconnect from screens and connect with one another.

By reintroducing these old norms and the promoter encourages a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage and the simpler joys of life. Beyond the entertainment value, these games promote active lifestyles, social interactions, and the development of essential life skills.

Vancooten’s efforts to keep the younger generation in tune with the past help create a balance between the virtual and real world, allowing young men and women to experience the timeless traditions that were once a vital part of their community’s identity.

The events are kept every two months and persons interested in joining the fun can contact 685-1460 for more information.
