The Police in Berbice have recovered the badly decomposed body of 48 year old Sharida Hussain of Pilot Street New Amsterdam who was among three persons who lost their lives following a mishap at the number 63 beach last month.

Regional Commander Jairam Ramlakhan said  that the body was discovered in a clump of bushes at the number 48 foreshore at about 13: 30 hours on Friday. The remains were positively identified by the woman’s son. The remains were escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital.

Hussain had boarded a vessel in Nikerie Suriname along with 75 year old Baboni Harihar of number 2 Village East Canje Berbice and Alvin Joseph of number 65 village and were entering Guyana through an illegal entry at the number 63 beach on the Corentyne. They were dropped off during the night on a sandbank located several miles out in the Corentyne river.

The captain of the vessel along with two others were detained in Suriname and had told investigators that they did not realize it was the sandbank they had dropped off the passengers. The boat had returned to the location but by that time the tides had raised and the passengers were nowhere in sight.

The two other bodies were recovered.
