'Blacka' bridge construction kicks off with pace

Traffic flow through the community of Sophia will be made easier very soon as a new GYD $50,000,000 Blacka Bridge is under construction.

Once complete, the bridge will facilitate easy access to the general North and South Georgetown area while enhancing the commute experience for those trying to get into Cummings Lodge and Industry.

Back in October, Ministers Croal, Indar, McCoy, and Walrond conducted a walk-through of the

community and made a commitment to have the bridge reconstructed, Minister Indar indicated that the rehabilitation works are to uplift the community’s living standards and also bring ease to the traffic backup on the East Bank Demerara and Sheriff Street.

Before the reconstruction, the wooden bridge was collapsing and deemed a hazard to commuters.

The contract for the project was signed in December and is currently being undertaken by Modern Construction and Trucking Services Ltd.

Road users are being asked to exercise tolerance and patience as the bridge remains under construction
