The woman who is accused of killing her abusive reputed husband was today remanded to prison on a murder charge. 27-year-old Eva Pearson of Lot 534  ‘D’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts.

She was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on April 1, 2021, at School Street, Cummings Park ‘E’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, she murdered 46-year-old Darren Harris, a cook of 1317 Cummings Park, ‘E’ Field Sophia.

She was remanded to prison until May 18, 2021, for statements.

According to reports, Harris and the woman once shared a relationship that ended a week prior to the incident due to domestic issues. A female eyewitness told Police ranks that on the day in question, at around 21:30 hrs, she overheard an argument on the road, and as such, she ventured out of her home and saw Harris on the ground. At the time, the witness told the Police that she also saw Pearson walking away from the scene.

The witness raised an alarm and the EMT ambulance service subsequently arrived and pronounced Harris dead. His body bore three stab wounds, one to the left side chest and two to the left side upper back. Pearson was later arrested at her home where it was observed that she was bleeding profusely from a wound between her right index and ring finger.

She claimed that she and Harris were involved in a scuffle during which he dealt her a chop to her fingers. The woman further claimed that she relieved him of a knife and inflicted injuries on him in self defence. The injured woman was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was treated for her injuries. She was later charged.
