Former Commissioner of Lands and Survey Trevor Benn is expected to appear in court again on Wednesday. This publication understands that the charges relate to alleged “misconduct in office” over the sale of 2 parcels of land at “Plot A Mandela Avenue and Aubrey Barker Street, South Ruimveldt.

The land which was valued at $60.8 million was allegedly sold at $30.5 million. Benn is being accused of selling the land below its value which amounts to “a breach of the public’s trust.”

In March Benn appeared in court on a similar charge for the sale of lands at Ogle on the East Coast of Demerara. He was released on bail.
The Opposition APNU/AFC has accused the ruling PPP/C and the police of targeting Benn and other Afro-Guyanese professionals.
