The trial of a 27-year-old man who is accused of murdering his aunt ended Tuesday in a hung jury. Kevin Mohan, called ‘Chucky’ was on trial for the offence before Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-member jury at the High Court in Demerara. Upon his arraignment, Kevin Mohan pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 4, 2016, at Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown, he murdered his aunt, Anita Mohan called ‘Sandra’, a vendor.

Following deliberations Tuesday, the jury was unable to arrive at a verdict. As a result, Kevin Mohan was further remanded to prison pending another trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Criminal Assizes. Throughout the trial, Kevin Mohan was represented by Attorney-at-law Ravindra Mohabir, while the case for the prosecution was presented by State Counsel Tiffini Lyken.

According to reports, Anita Mohan, 48, was found lying in a pool of blood on the lower flat of her home located at Lot 315 Cummings Lodge. It was reported that the woman was struck to the head with a rolling pin. An autopsy gave her cause of death as multiple injuries.
