A Corentyne hire car driver was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Public Hospital following an accident on the Number 23 village Public Road West Coast Berbice on Wednesday.

Dead is 29 year old Andre Joseph of number 53 village on the Corentyne.

According to information received at about 04:00 hours, the deceased was driving motor car HB 2975 when he was negotiating a turn and collided with motor car HC 7197 which was proceeding West along the southern side of the Number 29 Public Road.

As a result of the collision, the occupants of both vehicles received injuries about their bodies and were rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital.

There, Joseph was pronounced dead on the arrival while other passengers were admitted to the hospital.

Those injured are the driver of motor car HC 7197 39 year old Collis Johnson of number 53 Village, Corentyne, Berbice with passengers 49 year old Ron Mitchell and 29 year old all of number 53 village Corentyne.

BIG Smith News Watch understands that at the time of the accident the road was wet and could have caused the deceased to lose control of the car.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motor car HC 7197 which indicated that he had zero micrograms of alcohol in his system.

Investigations are ongoing.
