DEAD: 90 year old Rupert Williams

Rupert Williams, a ninety year old of Lot 1325 Section ‘B’ Block X Great Diamond East Bank Demerara doed this morning at his home during a fire.

The fire which started roughly between 08:30 and 09:00hrs was reportedly caused by the inability of Williams to successfully light a cigarette which wanted to smoke.

His daughter in law said she moments before the fire left the home to travel to the city where she was in the process of looking after the pension book for her father in law.

She told BIG Smith News Watch that about 03:00 on Thursday morning, Willaims woke up and was talking about not having his pension book so she decided that she would go to the Ministry of Humas Services and look after the book.

According to her she hired someone recently to take care of Williams since she is preparing to head to the United Sates in five days time.

The woman was asked to clean up the elderly man yesterday and in doing so she took away his cap but he told her he needed his cap as it had his money inside.

She said that yesterday Williams asked his new caretaker to purchase him a pack of cigarettes and a box of matches.

Relatives believed that this morning while another another was at the shop purchasing tennis rolls for Williams to have his breakfast. He attempted to light the cigarette and it fell on the mattress he was on and caused the fire, killing him his process.

Firefighters reported to then scene and put out the blaze even as the police are on the location awaiting the arrival of the undertakers to remove the remains of the elderly man.

Rupert Williams had three children children, two deceased and one on the United Sated.
