New year babies add joy across the country

As the calendar turned to January 2021, Guyana celebrated the new lives that were brought into the world on New Year’s Day.

20-year-old Anna Millinton of Yarakita, Region One (Barima – Waini) delivered her bouncing baby boy at 04:51 hrs at the Mabaruma Regional Hospital. This was followed by the medical team at the Suddie Public Hospital sharing the joy of three mothers who delivered their babies on New Year’s Day. Region Two (Pomeroon – Supenaam) recorded three New Year’s babies, with two being girls and one boy. The boy was delivered via Cesarean delivery (C-section).

Region 3 mom receives hamper

Over at Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), ten babies were born naturally. There were six boys and four girls. The country’s largest hospital – the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), recorded 22 New Year’s babies. 17 were natural deliveries – 10 boys and 7 girls while C-section saw some 5 deliveries with 4 girls and one boy.

Five babies were born on New Year’s Day and all of them were at the New Amsterdam Hospital, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). 23-year-old Lisa Edwin ushered in her baby at about 01:45 hrs; the baby weighed 4.6lbs.

The second mother was 18-year-old Maria Ali and she gave birth to a 6.4 lbs baby girl. A first- time mother, 24-year-old Tiana Karpen gave birth to a boy just after noon. Hers was followed by two other mothers later in the day.

Region 7 ( Cuyuni- Mazaruni)  did not record the birth of any New Year babies.

Meanwhile, the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) welcomed a girl, who came via normal delivery. All of the mothers were presented with hampers by the medical team in their region.
