Several ranking police officers under investigation by SOCU and CID

A number of Senior and other officers within the Guyana Police Force are under criminal investigation for alleged offenses that have been leveled against them and reportedly engaging the attention of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Among those under probe are Senior Superintendent Ewart Wray, Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper, Senior Superintendent Phillip Azore, Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon, Senior Superintendent Michael Kingston, Senior superintendent (ag) Marcia Washington, Superintendent Walter Stanton, Deputy Superintendent Frank Jackman, Deputy Superintendent Fredella Boyce, Assistant Superintendent Hollian Hooper, Assistant Superintendent Jeanette Prince, Assistant Superintendent (on probation) Marlon Kellman, Inspector Lingard Walcott and Sergeant Ayodele Sharper.

Recently, Minister of Home Affairs Robenson Benn dispatched a letter to Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppie where the Top Cop was asked to ensure that the ensure that in some of the cases the investigations into these officers should be completed while in other cases instructions were given for investigations to commence.

Based on communication seen by this publication, the alleged offenses leveled against the named officers includes but are not limited to; illegal Data interference, Dereliction of duties, perverting the course of justice, alleged corruption by public officer, larceny by clerk or servant, trafficking in person and corruption by servant and other offenses.

Contacted Sunday morning, some of the officers whose names appear on the document sent to the Commissioner of Police indicated that they have no knowledge of any pending and or ongoing investigations against their names.

The officers have also indicated that they were not formally informed that any proceedings against them have started at any level.

Senior officers within the administration of the Guyana Police Force would not comment on the document of any moves which have started or is likely to comment that would see the named officers becoming the subject of investigations.

The Police Service Commission is slated to act on a list with names of senior officers for end of year promotion as is customary.

It is the view of some within the force that the named officers in this article are on the said list of recommendations for promotion to the Service Commission and that ought not to be. Officers who are named in this article, however, are of the view that the list has been generated to hamper their chances of promotion.
