City duo held in Berbice after marijuana, gun find
Fidela Duncan and Jason Carmichael
Police ranks conducting a routine stop-and-search exercise at the Weldaad Station on Sunday afternoon had cause to take a woman and man into custody, after a search of the vehicle revealed a number of wrapped parcels of marijuana stashed in the hood of the car, while a gun was found under the driver’s seat.
The driver, 34-year-old Jason Carmichael of 318 Lamaha Park, Georgetown, and 28-year-old Fidela Duncan, of 48 David Street, Kitty, will be making their court appearance today.
According to what was communicated to BIG Smith News Watch, when the car (PYY 2127) pulled up at the roadblock, the police ordered both of the individuals to subject themselves to a search.

It was during that search that a .38 revolver with the marking ‘Rexio’ on the frame was found, along with five live rounds of .38 ammunition. The serial number was also barely visible on the weapon.
A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of six parcels wrapped in transparent plastic containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The two were cautioned and an offence put to them. Carmichael admitted ownership of the items, while Duncan denied any knowledge of same.
The items were then weighed in their presence, and placed into evidence to be used as exhibits in the court. Police sources said the suspected cannabis amounted to 4,535 grams.
