Nurses at the GPHC stand in the company of Lennox Cush’s younger relatives

Close to one hundred front line nurses who are mothers and were required to work on Mothers’ Day at the West Demerara, Georgetown, Mahaicony, and Fort wellington Hospitals received hampers from businessman Lennox Cush of Star Party Rentals.

“These frontline workers (nurses who are mothers) are taking risks with their lives to save the lives of other people during this COVID-19 pandemic. I have been living without my mother for the last 24 years and I wanted to honor these mothers who are making a difference in this country by putting their own and lives and that of their families on the line”. Lennox Cush told BiG Smith News Watch.

Medical Superintendent of the West Demerara Regional Hospital, Dr. Tracy Duncan noted that the Hospital has been doing very well in managing the issue of the coronavirus and the preparedness over at West Demerara with strong support from the Ministry of Public Health and the Regional administration.

The administrator of the hospital Cathline Amstrong expressed appreciation for the donation to the nurses and noted that the hospital has some plans for its mothers but it always becomes especially welcoming when corporate Guyana reaches out to health professionals.

Head Nurse of the Maternity Ward of the Fort Wellington Hospital Telicka McPherson received the items on behalf of the frontline mothers who worked today. She accepted the items in the presence of other nurses and expressed appreciation on their behalf that even in a time where many persons are fighting to ensure their personal safety and welfare, that a company such as Star party Rentals could have taken the time out to remember the nurses in the forefront of the battle.

Sharon Griffith who works at the Mahaicony Hospital is the nurse in charge there, accepted on behalf of her frontline staff.

“We wanna say thank you for your gesture and for preparing this for our people. We are looking forward to a union between Star Party Rentals and the Mahaicony Hospital in the future” she noted.

According to her, the hospital like many others across the country has been doing well in managing its facilities and adequately preparing coronavirus cases.

The final stop was the Georgetown Public Hospital were Strategic, planning, and Communications Manager Cheluna Providence was on hand to witness the handing over of the hampers to a number of frontline staff.

Like her colleagues in the health sector at the other hospitals, she was pleased that the nurses, especially the mothers who have been working the front line duties for almost two months now have not been forgotten by the people of the communities they serve.
