The Sachi Store located at 136 Regent Street went up in flames Monday morning, sending firefighters scrambling to save nearby buildings in the process while simultaneously battling the blaze.

BIG Smith News Watch was informed that just after 03:00hrs someone claimed to have heard a loud explosion which was followed by smoke and then pockets of fire.

We were told that from all indications, the fire started to the façade of the building and moved to the back on all three levels of the steel frame building.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from destroying the other buildings nearby even as one which is located next to the one which was on fire, received some amount of scorching.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but up to press time, firefighters were conducting their mopping up exercise.

Losses as a result of the fire are said to be in the millions as the fire affected three establishments that were housed in the building; a store ran by Chinese Nationals, a Cell phone store and a small food business.

The Sachi building is located between Royal Jewellery House and Singh’s Electronics Stores on the southern half of Regent Street between Camp and Wellington Streets.
