BREAKING: Lead detective in Karimbaksh rape probe suddenly transfer to interior

October 23, 2026
Today, Friday, October 23, 2026, marks 33 days since a female police inspector clutched her young infant child, marched up the stairs of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the company of her mother, where they met with Minister Oneidge Walrond in her Brickdam office. It was a Monday morning, September 21, 2026.
The nature of the visit? The policewoman went to relate what she described as repeated acts of rape committed on her by Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the Special Organized Crime Unit, Fizal Karimbaksh. It was also during that meeting that she detailed how a gun was placed to her head by Karimbaksh, who threatened to shoot and kill her.
After 33 days, the Guyana Police Force, under public pressure, has only spoken on the matter once. That one-time comment, which came in the form of a press statement, misled the nation by stating that Karimbaksh was sent on leave to facilitate the investigation when, in fact, Karimbaksh was still on the job.
While several government functionaries have been pressured to speak on the matter, the state and several key figures, women included, have been exercising silence amid calls and protests questioning why Fizal Karimbaksh is allowed to remain on active duty while the rape investigation is ongoing.
The Guyana Police Force received a legal opinion on who has the authority to send the Deputy Commissioner of Police home, and, based on the interpretation, President Irfaan Ali holds that power. Why he has not acted remains unclear.
Meanwhile, in a twist of events, the Guyana Police Force has decided to suddenly strip Senior Superintendent Chabinauth Singh of his investigative powers, remove him from the Criminal Investigation Department, place him back into the uniform section of the force, and transfer him to an interior location where he will now serve as the Deputy Commander. It should be noted that Singh was the lead investigator in the Fizal Karimbaksh rape probe. In 2022, Singh was recoginsiued as the Guyana Police Foirce’s best cop for his handling and lead role in several major and highprofile investigations.
BIG Smith News Watch has been informed that the investigation into the rape allegations against Fizal Karimbaksh was completed and submitted to Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken last week. Based on the investigation and evidence gathered, it was determined that enough evidence has been found for Karimbaksh to be charged with rape.
Persons within the Criminal Investigation Department have communicated to this publication that Singh might have been transferred because he refused certain instructions in relation to the rape investigation, which, had he followed those directives, would have placed the victim in this matter at a disadvantage, and tipped the scales in favour of rape accused Fizal Karimbaksh.
Earlier this week, BIG Smith News Watch contacted the Public Relations Officer for the Director of Public Prosecutions Chambers, Liz Rahaman. We enquired whether the file seeking legal advice on the Fizal Karimbaksh matter was there. We were told that based on a check which was done shortly before we called, the file had not been received.
We were promised by Ms. Rahaman that she would check and return a call to update us on whether the file was indeed there. We never received a return call, and multiple attempts by us to get back onto Ms. Rahaman saw our calls going unanswered.
BIG Smith News Watch has been told that the government is facilitating a process that allows the slothful approach to the investigation, as it seeks to buy time in allowing Fizal Karimbaksh to eventually exit the Guyana Police Force at the normal required period, which will lead him into his pre-retirement, retirement, and ultimately allow him to enjoy his full retirement benefits thereafter.
It was also stated that any move to have Karimbaksh removed from office before that time, and any charges laid to him before that time, will affect his retirement package.
