Security guard shot dead at Charlestown supermarket

A 37-year-old security guard was shot dead Thursday afternoon while performing duties at Lida Supermarket on Sussex Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
The dead man has been identified as Esan Orlando Rose, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown.
The fatal shooting reportedly occurred around 3:15 p.m. on October 8, 2026, when two men approached Rose at the Chinese-owned supermarket. One of the men was reportedly armed with a handgun.
According to Police, preliminary information indicates that the armed suspect discharged a round in Rose’s direction, striking him in the chest. Rose fell to the ground, while both suspects fled the scene.
Rose was reportedly carrying a firearm as part of his duties as an armed security guard. The weapon was recovered at the scene and taken into police custody.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remain under investigation, and the suspects have not yet been reported captured.
