Man on 100k bail for assaulting gas station attendant

October 6 2026
Former Community Policing Group member Andika Ferrier was granted $100,000 bail on Monday after appearing in court on a charge of assault causing bodily harm arising from an alleged confrontation with a female gas station attendant.
Ferrier is accused of assaulting the woman during an incident at the Rubis gas station at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
The allegation stems from a disagreement after the attendant reportedly declined to assist Ferrier with loading cooking-gas cylinders onto his truck.
As part of his bail conditions, Ferrier was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim and must report to a police station while the matter is before the court.
Ferrier is scheduled to return to court on October 26, 2026.
The case had attracted public attention after CCTV video provided by the woman’s family showed the brutal assault.
Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond said criminal charges were expected to be brought against Ferrier.
She had also recommended that his employment with the Ministry of Home Affairs be terminated in connection with the incident.
