Possible location of sunken MV Barima identified

The Government of Guyana says search and recovery teams may have identified the location of the sunken MV Barima following information received from a fisherman at sea on Monday afternoon.
In a statement, the Government said that at approximately 1:31 p.m., teams involved in the ongoing search and rescue/recovery operation received specific information from the fisherman regarding the possible location of the vessel.
Acting on the report, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) immediately directed all assets participating in the operation to the identified location to verify the sighting.
The Government said additional information will be released once the sighting has been confirmed and responding teams have completed their initial assessment.
