First Lady’s Office launches packaging and preserving training for persons with disabilities

A new Packaging and Preserving Training Programme has been launched to provide persons with disabilities with practical skills aimed at creating greater opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and economic independence.

The programme was opened on Tuesday at the Empower Guyana Building and was organised by the Office of First Lady Arya Ali in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture. The training is being facilitated by the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC).

Participants are persons with disabilities from the Centre for Equity, Innovation and Opportunity in Palmyra, Berbice.

The initiative is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge in packaging and preserving, allowing them to develop marketable products and explore avenues for generating income.

According to the First Lady’s Office, products developed through the programme are expected to enter the local market once the necessary certification process is completed by the GMC.

The initiative is being positioned as part of efforts to create sustainable economic opportunities for persons with disabilities while providing a platform for participants to showcase their skills and contribute to the wider economy.

The programme also highlights the potential for skills development and entrepreneurship to support greater economic independence among persons with disabilities.
