Archery Guyana has thrown its full support behind national athletes Devin Permaul and Roshini Boodhoo as they step up to the target at the XXV Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.

The duo, accompanied by national head coach Ryan McKinnon, form part of the wider Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) delegation competing at the prestigious regional multi-sport event.

Following official practice sessions on Thursday, both archers are set to begin their respective qualification campaigns today in the men’s and women’s recurve categories.

Archery Guyana president Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon praised the athletes’ journey to the games, highlighting the rigorous preparation required to compete at this level.

“Representing Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Games is a tremendous achievement and an honour earned through commitment, perseverance and hard work,” Persaud-McKinnon said.

“Devin and Roshini have demonstrated exceptional dedication throughout their preparation, and we are immensely proud of them. We also commend Coach Ryan McKinnon for his tireless efforts in developing our athletes. We know Team Guyana will wear the Golden Arrowhead with pride and exemplify the values of excellence, respect and sportsmanship.”

The governing body also acknowledged the crucial backing of the GOA in facilitating the team’s appearance. Appreciation was extended to GOA president Godfrey Munroe and his executive committee, alongside chef-de-mission Kenisha Headley and deputy chef Roger Callender, for ensuring the athletes could test themselves on the regional stage.

The CAC Games remain one of the oldest multi-sport gatherings in global athletics, bringing together the top competitors from across the Caribbean and Central America.

As the competition gets underway, Archery Guyana has urged the public to rally behind Permaul and Boodhoo as they look to make their mark.
