MV BARIMA DISTRESS: 9-Y-O and grandmother still missing

July 19 2026
Jason Headley, a 9-year-old from the Arakaka community in Region One, and his grandmother, Marcie Beharry, 47, also known as “Sant,” are among the persons missing after the distressed MV Barima sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
Jason was returning to Region One with his grandmother after spending his holiday in Georgetown when the vessel went down.
His relative, Malesa Wilson, told BIG Smith News Watch that Beharry, a businesswoman from Arakaka, Region One, was travelling with the young boy at the time of the incident.
Wilson said Jason’s mother, Tiffany Beharry, is in distress and has not received any updates on the whereabouts of her son and mother.
The family is appealing for any information that could assist in locating the pair as the search continues for those missing from the MV Barima.
