Boat Captain killed after tugboat and barge collide in Berbice River

A 60-year-old boat captain lost his life following a collision between a tugboat and a drifting timber barge on the Berbice River last Friday evening.
Dead is Alvin Adams of New Amsterdam, Berbice.
According to a police report, the incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. near Jeep Landing, Kwakwani Village, Upper Berbice River.
The report stated that a timber barge was drifting downstream due to the strong river current when a tugboat moved in to provide assistance. As the tugboat approached, the two vessels collided.
Adams, who was aboard the tugboat, became trapped between the vessels and sustained severe injuries.
He was rescued and rushed to the Kwakwani Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body remains at the hospital and is expected to be transferred to G-Jetsco Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal marine accident remain under investigation.
