Minister Bharrat to represent Guyana on EITI Board

July 2 2026
Guyana has secured a position on the international board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), strengthening its role in global discussions on resource governance and transparency.
Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat has been appointed as a Principal Member of the Implementing Country Constituency on the EITI Board, where he will represent Latin America and the Caribbean for the 2026–2029 term.
The appointment was confirmed by the EITI International Secretariat on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following a four-month regional nomination and consensus-building process that began in February.
According to a post from the Ministry of Natural Resources on social platforms, in his new role, Minister Bharrat will contribute to shaping international policy on transparency in the extractive sector, while also representing the interests of countries across the region.
Guyana’s selection comes as the country continues its 2026 EITI Validation process, which evaluates progress in transparency, data disclosure, and collaboration between government, industry, and civil society. The assessment began on May 15, 2026.
The Ministry of Natural Resources said the appointment reflects Guyana’s growing leadership in extractive governance, particularly as the country expands its oil, gas, and mining sectors and strengthens its regulatory and reporting frameworks.
Minister Bharrat is expected to use his position to further advance regional cooperation on transparency, including improved disclosure standards and accountability in resource revenue management.
