The headless body of a woman from Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was discovered at her home on Thursday night in a gruesome incident that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Her alleged drug-addicted son has been identified as the prime suspect in the killing.
The discovery was made by another son of the woman, who is a member of the Guyana Police Force. Reports indicate that upon arriving home, the officer found his mother’s body with her head severed, while his sibling—spattered with blood—was reportedly standing near the corpse.
Fearing for his safety after the suspect allegedly advanced toward him in a threatening manner, the policeman reportedly fled the scene and raised an alarm.
By the time police arrived at the location, the suspect had already escaped.
However, law enforcement officials later confirmed that the alleged killer was apprehended several hours after the incident.
