President Dr. Irfaan Ali says major groundwork is underway to strengthen Guyana’s border security system through the expansion of the recently established Border Patrol Unit.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, President Ali explained that the unit is being integrated with community policing groups to improve intelligence sharing, surveillance, and real-time monitoring along the country’s borders.

He noted that the initiative is aimed at building stronger monitoring capabilities and creating the infrastructure needed to support border operations.

Responding to questions about progress since the initiative was launched in Region Nine several months ago, including recruitment and operational readiness, the President said authorities are currently conducting extensive assessments across border locations.

According to President Ali, officials are examining the unique security and logistical challenges facing different border areas before moving toward full deployment of the system.

He explained that each location presents its own challenges, and the Government’s strategy is to develop an efficient deployment system tailored to those realities.

The President’s comments indicate that the Government is pursuing a more intelligence-driven and targeted approach to border management, with plans expected to reflect the specific needs of Guyana’s frontier regions.
